Class Work & Events

The Royal Wedding

Year 4 Survival Day

The Kingsway Center came to see us and teach us how to survive if we ended up on a deserted island. We learnt many different ways to make fire and even how to filter water so that we can drink it. The children worked well as a team and were wonderfully behaved. Well done, Class 4!

Eating Bugs

Making fire

Literacy

For the first half of the summer term we will be reading a new book. The children worked in a small group and were given an envelope. They had to use the clue inside to help them guess what our new book might be. We then asked questions and made some deductions on what we think might happen. We are very excited to read… Kensuke’s Kingdom.

Sports Relief

The children looked amazing in their sports gear and had a fabulous time at the Dance Marathon. Thank you for your continued support in contributing to our charity fund raising events.

Allstars Cricket

We had a visit from the people at Allstars cricket to see if the children would be interested in joining the club. We had lots of fun practicing our ball skills.

World Book Day

Everybody’s costumes were fantastic! In the morning we judged the chair competition.

Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them

Because the theme of our Library is Harry Potter and our theme for World Book Day was Magical, Year 3 and 4 decided to create some work based on Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them.

Storyteller

Today we had a fantastic story teller come in to school. He told us a Japanese story set at the bottom of Mt Fuji.

Athletics

We all had a fantastic time at our athletics event. We were split in to two groups and practiced different skills with the big children from St Johns school.

Numeracy

Over the first few terms we have been reminding ourselves of place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We have even learnt some new skills. Now we are using what we have learnt in different ways. This term we have been focusing on fractions. Year 4 have realised their multiplication knowledge is vital for this, so please keep practicing at home.

Literacy

We have started our new book this half term: The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. Edward is a very special rabbit and we have enjoyed going on his journey. We have practiced writing in the style of Edward and have been creating different pieces of writing as we follow his adventure. Even though Edward is made of china, in our hearts he is real.

Sweet Making!

We pretended we were part of Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory and made our own inventions! We used different sweets and icing glue to hold it all together. We then created some amazing descriptions of all the weird and interesting things the sweets could do!

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!

Our book for this term is none other than Roald Dahl’s Charlie and The Chocolate Factory! All of the children thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and loved the activities we did along side it.

The cutting of the elastic bands…

We removed and cut off the elastic bands to see the patterns we have made. When they are dry we are going to get a class photo in our cool Tie Dyed tee shirts! We used green and blue dye. We had to make the mixture then let our clothes soak. We’re very excited to see the finished product when the clothes are dry!

Food Chains

This term we have jumped right back in to our science topic learning all about food chains. We did lots of research to find out what animals ate and learnt lots of new language e.g. top predator and consumer.

We have been very kind helping each other to finish our masterpieces!

Science

Our Science topic is Grouping and Dangers to Living Things. We have been exploring different animals and how we can group them. As a class we love learning about new animals. This includes animals we have never heard of or animals that have been newly discovered. We loved the visit from Jay and his animals!

Durham Book Festival

We were very lucky to be given the opportunity to go to the Durham Book Festival at Durham Johnston School. We met Mick Manning and Brita Granstrom, who are the authors and illustrators of some very cool books. They showed us their newest book called Books, Books, Books. They read us part of their book which is an inside snapshot of the British Library in London. Brita even showed us how to draw some of the famous people from the book. The drawings look fantastic! A lovely afternoon was had by all and I was very impressed with their mature behaviour and questions.

Literacy

We have been reading a book called ‘I Was a Rat’ by Philip Pullman.

We have been practicing different skills such as; expanded noun phrases, speech, Inside. (Outside.) sentences, descriptions, fronted adverbials and contractions.

Humboldt Penguins

We started this term by adopting a Humboldt Penguin from Chester Zoo. We had loads of fun finding out all about the penguins and making fact files. In Literacy we read a book called ‘Lost and Found’ and used our imagination to write how the penguin ended up at the little boys door. In art we made penguins using socks! They look very cute.
