The four pillars of our whole school curriculum are:
Reading is at the core of everything we do as a school. From making a strong start in Phonics in the Early Years to developing reading for pleasure in KS2, we aim to ensure that every child leaves us as a confident, engaged and fluent reader. Please follow this link to our Reading/Phonics Curriculum page.
Our knowledge rich and progressive curriculum is coherently planned to ensure that children’s knowledge and skills build each year in both the core and foundation subjects. Our creative approach to planning topics means children are excited by what they are learning about, whilst our curriculum concepts help children to deepen their understanding and make links between their learning. Metacognitive approaches ensure that learning sticks.
Character development opportunities and enrichment activities give all children chance to achieve and experience success. Our Staindrop Bucket List and involvement in projects such as the ABYYT Young Leader Award ensure that children leave us with a wealth of experiences and high aspirations.
Through our distinctly Christian identity, Collective Worship, PSHE and RSE curriculums, children have opportunities for prayer, reflection and gain a deep understanding of British Values. Through the School Council and Worship Committees, our children recognise the value of charity work, and are exposed to wider global issues and how they can make a difference. We support the mental health and well being of our school community and ensure all are valued.
The following documents outline in detail the key knowledge and skills taught in each subject, in each year group. Progression documents map out the journey children will take through a carefully sequenced body of skills and knowledge that we have chosen as a school. Powerful concepts or schemata alongside thematic units, link learning in all subjects ensuring that all children leave school with a deep knowledge & understanding of these big ideas. Our curriculum design is an ongoing cycle of evaluating and reviewing. As such we will update this page regularly as our Curriculum continues to develop…
