Class Useful information
- PE – We will be undertaking at least two sessions of P.E. each week. At present these will be on Monday and Wednesday afternoon. Children should bring their P.E. kits in on a Monday and not take them home until Friday as we may complete P.E. at others times, weather depending.
- Homework – Literacy and Mathematics homework will be issued each week on a Wednesday and should be returned the following Monday.
- On Tuesday, children will be tested on their weekly spellings and also Times Tables.
- Reading Books – It would be great if you could read regularly with your child. We are no longer using Reading Record books as we are monitoring reading through the Accelerated Reading Programme. If you have any comments or concerns regarding reading at home please write them in the back of the homework book. If you would still like a separate book to note down when you read with your child then please just ask. I will still be hearing children read in regular guided reading sessions.

Class Work & Events
This term will certainly kick off with a busy few weeks; plenty of hard work in preparation for our SATs! It won’t just be literacy and maths though… we have plenty of projects to work through. We will be looking back through the decades in history and getting crafty in art and D&T. We will also be celebrating the Royal wedding. Not to mention our end of year show, which we will be busy preparing. Lots of things to look forward to!

Spring Term
This term our History topic will be Victorians, where we will begin going to Beamish and visiting a Victorian classroom. We will be looking at rivers in our geography topic and looking closely at World Rivers and of course the River Tees.
In Literacy, we will be looking at a variety of texts including: The Storm, The Night of the Gargoyles and Skellig. Throughout all three texts, we will be working really hard on using description to create a vivid image in the readers mind. In Maths, we will be looking at shapes, time and ratio.
We have plenty of things to look forward to!

orm
We love writing some descriptions of different storms. Watch some of the videos below to hear our wonderful work!
We had a lovely day at the Fire and Rescue carousel. We had a variety of talks from the fire brigade, police, nurses, road safety, the RNLI and Northern Power. We learnt a lot and know lots about the dangers around and how we can keep ourselves safe.

Animal Adoption
To kick start the Autumn Term, each class has adopted an animal from Chester Zoo. We are now the proud parents of a chimpanzee! In class, we will be looking into facts about chimpanzees but our main focus in Literacy will be the fantastic King Kong book by Anthony Browne. Watch this space for some of our amazing writing.
