We had a great trip to The Forbidden Corner!
Mrs Richards came in today to tell us all about insects. We learnt so many fascinating facts and then went on our own insect hunt! We even got to look at some through a microscope!
We will be reading a variety of books including: Cosmic, Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy and Broccoli Boy, along with plenty of non-fiction books. In Literacy, we will be looking at how we can portray characters and use a variety of punctuation to keep the reader interested. We will also be writing information texts on the Gobi Desert. In Maths, we will be going fraction mad! In Science, we will be looking at space and forces. Along with all of this, we will also look at the history of space, space artwork and landscapes. The superheroes of Year 5 will certainly be busy!
In year 5, for Safer Internet Day, we have been looking at our personal responsibility of taking and sharing pictures. We have been discussing the dangers of sharing pictures, what is appropriate to share and also how sharing images can have a positive impact. We created a mini play, “This is your internet”, to highlight the good and bad of sharing photos.
Remember to be mindful of your digital footprint and be careful what you post. Tell an adult if something or someone upsets you. If you and your friends can do this, then you can… ‘Be the change: Unite for a better internet’.
We had a lovely time visiting the Gurdwara in Darlington. We learnt a lot about the history of the religion and their beliefs. The temple was fascinating to look about and we enjoyed learning about their practices.
The racing car, which came to visit, was AMAZING! A super Friday!
Over the next ten weeks, we have Dan and Amy coming in to teach music. They are going to teach Year 5 about all the different music elements, they will do lots of singing and playing of instruments and will also be composing their own music! The first lesson was great fun and we look to forward to becoming excellent musicians.
Class 5 and 6 are working towards their Young Church Leader’s Award. One of their tasks is to organise a charity event. They have decided to support The Alzheimer’s Society. They would like you to come to school dressed as an elf or in a Christmas jumper on Thursday 8th December. They would also like you to try and complete as many Goof Elf Deeds on your sponsor form as you can. All money raised will go to the Alzheimer’s Society
We made Viking Longboats
We had a great time at the high school participating in an Enterprise Day. In groups, we had to design an outfit for a male and female. Not only did we have to design the outfit, we also had to cost the price of the clothing and persuade people to buy them. It certainly was fun dressing people up in bin bags! Watch this space, I think Year 5 have some future designers among them.
We had a great day with the ‘Show Racism the Red Card’ team. We got to play football with Ollie, an ex-Newcastle player. Our skills were put to the test! Justine then talked about what racism is and about the history behind racism. It got us all thinking about how we should treat people in our world and that it doesn’t matter about any of our differences.
